APCC hits out at Modi over demonetization
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Padi Richo lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had informed its all 'big corporate friends' to settle their black money well before he announced the demonetization on November 8.
He said that scrapping of notes of higher denomination has brought the country into a state of financial and economic emergency, where common people were worst sufferers.
Criticizing the Prime Minister's new monetary policy, the APCC President said that the Centre should have first made currency notes available in advance in all the bank branches throughout the country with adequate ATMs.
The people are harassed unnecessarily in the name of "surgical strike" against black money and corruption, Richo said.
The patients, daily wage labourers, farmers, vendors, shopkeepers and indigenous tribal people living in the far flung areas having no any bank accounts or bank facilities are going through the toughest time for survival since last 5 days, he said.
"Bringing black money back to the country from aboard in 100 days was the first promise made by Modi during his election campaign in 2014. He also promised that every individual account would be credited with Rs 15 lakh each after recovering black money. But, two and half years have passed the people still did not get the Rs.15 lakh in their bank accounts," Richo said.
"Is not it a high drama of Modi to divert the attention of the people after he failed to fulfill the poll promises," questioned Richo.
Strengthen coop movement, says Minister Taga
NAHARLAGUN, Nov 14: Minister Cooperation Tamyo Taga stressed the need for strengthening cooperative movement in the state through public awareness to achieve the objective of Cooperative Society.
Cooperative Week is celebrated throughout the country by organizing a lot of activities where people from all the society take part. It is greatly enhanced by the cooperation for the youth to make their own societies to actively take part in the cooperatives movement to make their livelihood more institutionalized, the Minister said while addressing the inauguration function of the week-long 63rd National Cooperative week here on Monday.
He advised the participants to make full use of the weeklong programme and hoped that the programme will bring huge change in sustaining their life.
The theme of the national cooperative week this year is "Role of cooperatives in Sustainable Development and Growth".
Earlier, ZPM Borum-I Advocate Techi Tolu advised the participants to make the people educate and aware about the importance of Cooperative societies and how it can help them in sustaining their life.
Chairmain, APSCU Bengia Hemanta also spoke on the occasion.

Union minister reviews status of central schemes, puts emphasis on road connectivity
TAWANG, Nov 14: Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Arjun Ram Meghwal has reviewed the status of Centrally Sponsored Schemes (SSC) being implemented in Arunachal Pradesh in a meeting held at Zomkhang Hall, Tawang on Saturday.
The visiting minister while reiterating the commitment of government towards the state said that region is of paramount importance and that the assurances given during this visit would surely be reflected in the budget.
Stressing the importance of road development, the Union minister said that he would see to it that the fund constraint highlighted in the presentation on BRO is included within the Supplementary Demand so that the same may be taken up during the parliament session. He assured that unreleased amount with respect to the upcoming Medical College and 500 Bedded Hospital in Naharlagun, required/pending funds under PWD, RWD and Urban Development departments would also be included within the same .
When apprised about the Arun Medicity project for future expansion of health sector which would include medical schools, hospitals, accommodation etc and for which an area of 180 acres have been earmarked, he assured that the project would be included in the budget.
He asked PWD to explore connecting Arunachal under Bharat Mala Project and prepare DPR accordingly. Minister further advised that various requirements viz. survey, augmentation, transmission etc under power sector may be placed under DDUGJY (Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana). The Minister also directed the state govt. to ensure construction of separate toilets for boys and girls in all schools and assured that the enrollment norms for upgradation of schools to higher levels would also be relaxed considering sparse population in the region.
With respect to Tawang district he said that certain amount for drainage system would be allocated in the next budget and asked for submission of DPR after conduct of survey/investigation by an expert organization. He also assured to press for early clearance of Lumla-Tashigang road with the ministry of External Affairs.
Presentations on respective departments highlighting the target and achievement, constraints, pending issues etc were made by the team of delegates comprising of Bora Ete, Chief Engineer (PWD, Highway), Atup Lego, CE (PWD Design & Planning), KC Dhimole, Technical Assistant to Chief Minister, Taba Tedir, CE (UD), Dr Moji Jini, Director, Health Service and Rokom Bado, MS (APPDA). The minister was apprised about the constraints being faced owing to general norms/ guidelines not feasible for the State owing to various conditions, fragile topography resulting in frequent landslides, floods leading to repeated damages, escalation of cost owing to high rates of materials, transportation cost, inability to complete infrastructures due to non release of funds within delinked schemes etc. A presentation on the status of BRO roads was given by Chief Engineer, Vartak.

AdiSU Delhi provides cloths, toiletries to homeless
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: The Delhi unit of AdiSU provided warm cloths and toiletries to the footpath dwellers in national capital.
The 32-member AdiSU team under its 'winter giveaway drive', reached out to more than 100 footpath dwellers and provided them with cloths, blankets, toothbrush, toothpaste, soaps, sanitary pads, shoes, etc.
The team started off in the midnight (00:00 hr) of Monday so that it can reach out to those, who were in dire needs of such items.
They went through Ashram Ring road to Kashmeregate, Majnukatila, Lajpat Nagar and AIIMS.
The programme aimed at achieving twin objective of extending helping hands to the hapless ones and bridging the racial differences with love and friendship.
AdiSU acknowledged the support of Arunachal student's of KD Dental College, Mathura and Meerut for making the programme a success.
Lohit Youth Library Network enters "Civil Society Hall of Fame"
NEW DELHI, Nov 14: "Innovations of common man are of utmost importance to the progress of India and our societies. Hence these efforts should be actively encouraged and honoured," said Prof R. Lauding the 'Civil Society' magazine for honouring the Lohit Youth Library Network working in the easternmost districts of India, the Coordinator, Sathyanarayanan Mundayoor, pointed out that the inspiring social and national changes in India during the last 120 years, was propelled by a powerful desire to read and absorb new ideas. Unfortunately, after Independence, this wave did not spread strongly to rural and marginalized societies. Further the traditional mother-tongue education has been replaced today by English medium schooling in states like Arunachal, with both the teacher and the students, equally deprived of adequate access to learning materials. He also appealed to the educated elite of the society to join hands to spread the joy of Reading among these reading-deprived youths.
Earlier, Umesh Anand, Publisher, Civil Society, outlined how the magazine during the last 13 years has been projecting stories of little-known Indians who have been struggling to better the lives of common people. Floral tributes paid to Nehru on his birthday
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) paid glowing tributes to first Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary.
Former Prime Minister and veteran Congress leader Nabam Tuki led the party workers, cadres and leaders in offering floral tributes to the decorated portrait of Pandit Nehru at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan here on Monday.
Tuki recalled Nehru as a visionary leader, a statesman and a profound humanist.
"Nehru laid the foundation of a strong and modern India based on secular ideals. He believed that Science and Technology could only enable India to emerge as modern country," Tuki said while recalling his contribution to the nation and the state.
Tuki highlighted on Nehru's Panchsheel system for tribal development, like Inner Line Permit System to protect and safeguard the life and property of indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh.
The veteran Congress leader appealed to the party men and women to take a pledge to follow ideals of Nehru and spread the message of communal harmony, unity and integrity.
APCC President Padi Richo recalled Pandit Nehru's struggle and contribution in nation building and said that he had great love and affection for children for which he is popularly known as "Chacha Nehru."
Arunachal Pradesh Congress Seva Dal cadres, workers, state and city office bearers have also paid floral tributes to Pandit Nehru on his 127th Birth Anniversary.
Nehru, born on November 14, 1889 in Allahabad, was one of the prominent nationalist leaders of the freedom struggle and the central figure of independent India as its first Prime Minister, APCSD said in a release.
As Nehru's birthday is celebrated as Children's Day, schools throughout the state organized various programmes as part of the celebration.
Headmaster of P Sector Govt. Secondary School Toku Raja led the students and teachers in paying floral tributes to Pandit Nehru. He highlighted about Nehru and his contributions to the nation as first prime minister of the independent India. He advised the students to follow the ideals of Nehru. He asked the students to respect their parents, elders and teachers.
Speaking about youth power in the nation's development, State Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha president Taring Tiri asked the students to concentrate on their study to become successful and responsible citizens.
Prizes/medals and certificates to winners of various competitions of the Annual School Day were distributed on the occasion.

Rijo Middle School and Police Colony Govt. Middle School organized cultural and sports competition among the students to mark the day.

Hakom, who also is the Secretary General of Arunachal Teachers' Association (ATA), suggested the parents and guardians to keep in contact with the teachers and school authority to ensure that their children reach the school after they left homes. He appealed them to guide their children properly and evaluate the progress of their children after every assessment examination.

The struggle to shed off that ‘dirty’ tag

It was August 23, 2016 when he had cleaned the streets of Naharlagun for the first time. He was devastated with the news that Itanagar had come third in the list of dirtiest cities in the country.
"I love my state and I have always been proud of my rich Arunachalee heritage so the news came as a shock to me," recalls Techi Karda Tara, a resident of Polo Colony in Naharlagun.
He has not stopped since then. After collecting all the garbage, he would then inform the IMC workers to get it picked in the morning or would use his pocket money to hire a pick up van to send it off to the dumping ground at Chimpu.
He accepts that his decision to start cleaning the streets of Naharlagun had bewildered few minds, one being his father.
"My father thought I had gone insane," he grins.
Starting all alone, his has a team of seven core members now who likes to call themselves 'Citizens against garbage' which swells up to 30 to 40 during weekends. They can be seen sweeping the streets of Naharlagun everyday during evening hours.
"We cannot always blame the municipal for the dirt that adorn our twin town. It is also our duty to keep the surroundings clean. There is no point campaigning for cleanliness unless you do it and show them how it's done," he reasons.
The 24-year old lashes out at the many organizations who seek money from government officials and others for conducting social work.
"Their main source of income is collecting donations for these events. Our work will show them that we don't need money to do these things," he laments.
Seeing their voluntary works, many people have come out and helped the group with monetary help which are used to buy tools.
"We never misuse the funds that we receive from donors. We make it a rule that it is spent in buying useful stuffs for our volunteer works," he says.
A student of sixth semester BA LLB in Arunachal Law College (ALA), Karda also gives free tuition classes to underprivileged students of his neighbourhood during free hours.
"I met a guy who owns a small shop. I saw that his son was smart but paralysed from waist down and though he wanted to go to school, he couldn't because of his condition. And the father could not afford to admit him to the special school or pay his tuition fees so I decided to help. I started with him and his little sister," he shares.
Of his fight to remove the dirty tag from Itanagar, he says, "We will continue to do our works. We want to see our state get out of that list of 10 dirtiest states," he says. "Or at least bring it down from that humiliating third position," he adds smiling.
A nation's destiny is shaped in classroom: Wangham
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Parliamentary Secretary (Power) Thangwang Wangham underscored the importance of education in nation building, saying that a nation's destiny is shaped in classrooms.
Speaking at the silver jubilee cum Children's Day celebration at Green Mount School here on Monday, Wangham urged the young children to aim high and make their dreams into reality through hard work and perseverance.
Underscoring the importance of teachers in shaping young minds, the Parliamentary Secretary called upon the teaching community to be more hardworking and dedicated.
"A nation cannot progress without good teachers," he said and appealed them to live upto to society's expectation by discharging duty sincerely.
Later, Wangham released the Special Silver Jubilee Edition of the Annual School Magazine, 'Baal Darpan'.
Impressed with the function, he announced Rs. 5 lakh out of his MLA LAD fund for the welfare of the school to the thunderous applause of the teachers, parents and students.
Chairperson Higio Aruni took the impressive gathering down the memory lane since 1991 and the circumstances under which this school was opened. She revisited the days when she opened the school with only 5 students and how the school has grown in these years.
The week-long program of co-curricular activities included games and sports, cultural and literary activities.
The school also had its first ever Alumni meet on November 12, which was well attended by most of its ex students and teachers, who are now serving in different parts of the state in various capacities.
GoI giving special attention to sports sector: Pario

PASIGHAT, Nov 14: Minister for PHED & Water Supply, Takam Pario has said that the central government is giving special attention to the state's sports sector and is granting funds to boost sports infrastructure.
He said this while attending the inaugural program of State-Level Inter-School Sports Meet-2016, organized by Arunachal Sikhsha Vikash Samiti (ASVS) here on Monday. Stating that games and sports is an indispensable part of children's education, he suggested the young students to take active part in games and sports and maintain the spirit of sportsmanship.
ASVS State Secretary, Nabam Ruja and State Coordinator of ASVS, MN Chaturvedi also spoke on the occasion.
Among others, Project coordinator, Ashokan KV, Tagum Jerang, SMC secretary of Donyi Polo Vidya Niketan, Dana Moyong besides, a host of government officials attended the inaugural function.

Emulate work culture of Apatani women, says DC
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: The laborious spirit and work culture of the Apatani women should be emulated by all the womenfolk across the state, said Kemo Lollen, Deputy Commissioner, Lower Subansiri while inaugurating the APMC market shed at Khoter, Hapoli on Sunday.
Addressing the farm women from different SHGs and farming clubs, DC Lollen said that concept of SHG has been implemented in true spirit by Apatani women. Better training and exposure trips will equip them better to generate more revenue, he added and assured to incentivize these SHG to strengthen them.
The bank officials should proactively assist these laborious womenfolk in securing loans; he added and suggested the sponsoring departments to pursue the matters with the banks whenever applications are received under certain schemes. This way SHGS and entrepreneurs will be encouraged, he reasoned. He donated a set of farming equipments on the occasion.
Chairman Dilyang Dibo Multipurpose Society Nani Jailyang highlighted the activities of the farmers clubs and the SHGs under the society. As the new market shed is located in between Old Ziro and Hapoli it can become a buffer zone for vegetable growers of the nearby villages. The shed would initially start as a Saturday wholesale market and then based on the production the market will be open twice a week, She informed while appealing to all the farming women to avail the facility.
Deputy Director Agriculture Boria Nakum informed that a soil testing laboratory is being set up at Yazali agriculture farm which would facilitate nutrient treatment of the soil and increase productivity. Much to the joy of kiwi and cardamom growers, he also informed that both have been approved by Mission organic Value Chain Development under National Mission for Sustainable development, thus paving way for a higher market value.
Hage Taru a progressive farmer and the owner of Himalayan kiwis shared his experiences as a kiwi grower. Later DC interacted with the farm women and inspected the market shed, nursery and the emporium run by the Dilyang Dibo soceity. Kathina Civara Dana ceremony ends
NAMSAI, Nov 14: The two day Kathina Civara Dana ceremony concluded on Monday with ritualistic offering of yellow robes to the monk by Thai devotees who are here to celebrate the Kathina Civara Dana at the Kongmu Kham (Golden Pagoda) in Namsai district. The Thai delegates also presented specially designed Kalpatru (Money tree) to the monks.
The devotees who thronged the Kongmu Kham to celebrate religious occasion with the Thai delegates undertook the five precepts which were followed by offerings of alms to Bhikkhu sangha and religious discourse led by Head monk of Chongkham temple Venerable Pingyasiha Mahathero.
According to religious belief of the Theravada Buddhists, the day being purnima is considered a sacred day for the entire Buddhist communities which also coincided with appearance of the super moon that added grandeur to view of the Golden Pagoda. The whole event was witnessed by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein who is also the patriarch of the Kongmu Kham with the people including the reverend monks from Thailand and the Thai delegates.
In the evening celebration of Loi-Krathong (Poi-Phong) the ceremony of releasing floating lamps in the Mungchalinda Buddha pond was organised.
The Abbott of the Kongmu Kham Venerable Vimalatissa Bhikkhu underlying the significance of Poi -Phong informed that it was performed to seek blessings for good health, peace and prosperity and usher in prosperous and vibrant New Year as per the Tai lunar calendar.
In the intervening night of the 2-day fest, Pung the Tai Khampti melodrama enthralled the crowds.
Jarbom Gamlin State Level Boxing Championship concludes
NIRJULI, Nov 14: The first Jarbom Gamlin State Level Boxing Championship 2016, organized by Papum Pare Amateur Boxing Association under the aegis of Arunachal Amateur Boxing Association, concluded successfully at Nyokum Niya ground, Nirjuli on Monday.
Upper Subansiri bagged the champion district in men's section followed by Tawang.
Kra Daadi was declared the champion district in women's section with three gold, two silver and equal numbers of bronze medal while Changlang came second.
East Kameng was adjudged the champion district in sub-junior category while Kurung Kumey came second.
Papum Pare's Techi Bida and Mandiya Mekola of Dibang Valley were declared best boxers in men's and women's section respectively.
Techi Bida beat Jehnu Homnyu of Capital Complex to win the gold in 46-49 Kgs category. Bronze medals were awarded to both the semifinalists Gaurav Dewan Rai of Kurung Kumey and Thagum Khybang of Upper Subansiri.
The best looser title in men's section went to Khungpong Wangcha of Capital Complex. Kai Rumi of West Siang was adjudged the best looser among the women boxers.
East Kameng's Kane Natung won the best boxer in sub-junior category while best looser award went to Techi Manya of Papum Pare.
Tahon Kongkang of Capital Complex won the best boxer title in junior category while Solung Singhi of East Kameng was the best looser in the category.
Gumin Gara of West Siang walked away with the promising boxer title.

Kurung Kumey, E&Ks register wins
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Kurung Kumey FC and E&Ks won their respective matches against Balijan and Classis Assembly FC in the 4th State Level Veteran Cup Football on Monday.
Kurung Kumey defeated Balijan 3-1 while E&Ks edged past Classis Assembly 1-0 scored by Tadar Joy in 55th minute.
The second match of the day played between LABA FC and EKFA ended in 2-2 draw.
Scorers of LABA were Tadar Tanam (41st Min) and Tadar Tanam (68 min) through penalty kick.
Arom Sonam (24th min) and Sona Bagan (37th min) scored for EKFA.
Ex-PI Toya Pertin passes away at 100
KIYIT, Nov 14: Toya Pertin, ex-Political Interpreter of Siang Frontier during the North East Frontier Agency breathed his last , yesterday morning at his residence at Kiyit village under East Siang.
Born in 1916 at Mebo (Langko) village, Pertin lived till the ripe age of 100 and was renowned for his traditional knowledge of Kebang, a social worker and a visionary and yet he was a Towering figure in Siang belt during his active and veteran life.
He was inducted as a Political Interpreter from 1947 to 1954. Then taking voluntary retirement, Toya Pertin actively participated in 'Community Development Project' of the NEFA era. He also participated in the World War II. He was called as the living encyclopedia of Adi Traditional Laws. A benevolent person and a great visionary, being the Gambura, he was one of the personae who was influential in the creation of Daying Ering Wild Life Sanctuary in East Siang.
He was a pioneer and instrumental in popularizing and introducing Wet Rice Cultivation in Mebo area. He was one of the founders of Kiyit village, which is part of the famed rice-bowl of Siang region.
The then Governor of Assam Vishnu Sahay in recognition of his exemplary community services awarded the Governors' Medal to Toya Pertin.
Later, Pertin also became the first ever Zilla Parishad Member of Mebo Banggo from 1972 to 1975. He also served as the president of Mebo Banggo several times in the late 1970s and 1980s.
He has left behind with three sons, four daughters and 38 grandchildren with their 60 offspring.
"His passing away will never make up the irreparable loss. Today all of the Adi Society and all the people of Arunachal are bereaved at this stage. May the Almighty Donyi Polo bless his wonderful soul," said Bodong Yirang, Gen Secy, Adi Baane Kebang.
Miss Senorita Universe -2016 turns showstopper for Designer Yora Mary
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Miss Senorita Universe 2016, Rewati Chetri turned showstopper for Fashion designer from Arunachal, Yora Mary who showcased her 'Arunachal Modern Local Attire Collection' at the Northeast Festival held at New Delhi from Nov 4-6 last.
In all, 13 designers from different parts of the North East had showcased their designs in the event.
Mary had earlier, showcased her designs for Mrs India Home Makers 2016, held in New Delhi besides, the Garnier Fashion Week in Guwahati and North East Fashion Weekend held at Guwahati and Itanagar respectively.
Two houses gutted
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Two houses were completely gutted down in a major fire accident at Puchigeko-South under Puckigeko circle of Upper Subansiri district on November 11 last. After spot visit All Nyishi Students' Union Upper Subansiri district unit (ANSU-USU) appealed the DC and SP for spot verification and to provide immediate relief of the fire victims.
Early implementation of 7th CPC sought
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: The Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) has appealed to the state government for early implementation of 7th pay commission as approved by the Central Government.
The budget provision for 7th CPC is Rs 642.56 crores whereas the actual additional implication is Rs 415.13 crores only so there won't be much of a financial burden on the state Govt if 7th Pay commission comes to force, it said supporting CoSAAP's demand in its release.
As per Fundamental Rules (FR) 56, every government employee will retire at the age of 60 years. Retirement age at 60 years is a part of 5th CPC which the government of India accepted and implemented since 1998. All the states have accepted. Arunachal Pradesh is the only state of where teachers and MTS retire in 60, Doctors in 62 and others in 58 years. This is big injustice, it added also supporting CoSAAP's demand for retirement age to be pushed to 60.
Guru-Nanak Jayanti celebrated
PASIGHAT, Nov 14: The 548th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak was celebrated by Sri Guru Nanak Devji Sabha Pasighat with religious zeal and fanfare at the Gurudwara here on Monday.
Special prayers were offered at the Gurudwara two days before the Guru Purnima. Devotees recited their holy book, Guru Granth Sahib and took out procession keeping the holy book in a palanquin as part of the celebration.
Lok Sabha MP Ninong Ering, MLA Kaling Moyong, PMC Chief Councilor Kaling Doruk and former Minister Bosiram Siram also greeted the people on the occasion and appealed to all to follow the path shown by Guru Nanakji. (DIPRO)
Free health camp
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: More than 700 people participated in a free health camp which was organized at Bana and Pampoli under East Kameng district on November 9 and 10 by All Abo Matam Kao Welfare Society (AAMKWS). It was done in collaboration with District health service, Seppa, RK Mission Hospital, Itanagar and Sushi Infra & Pvt Limited.
During the camp, medicines and eye glasses were distributed to the patients free of cost. More than 45 cases of eye problems were detected. Free eye surgery for the patients detected with eye ailments will be done by doctors from R K Mission Hospital at Seppa in January next year.
